Megan Gamble, founder
Megan comes to yoga via a career in media and communications. She was initially drawn to the mat as a way of managing stress and found the opportunity to become truly present – in both mind and body – too good to resist. A regular and addictive hot yoga practice ensued. It was an unplanned but fortunate break in her career that gave her the opportunity to train as a teacher with Yoga Arts (www.yogarts.com.au). It proved to be a transformative experience; one that confirmed her love for yoga and the power it has to change lives.
Megan has explored several yoga styles, dabbling in Iyengar in her early 20s and delighting in the heat of Bikram during several cold London winters. But it’s hot yoga, vinyasa and Yin that currently have her heart, particularly the latter. Megan has studied Yin yoga with several of founder Paul Grilley’s assistants, Sebastian Pucelle, Murielle Burellier and Jo Phee, and says it’s had a huge influence on her teaching style and personal practice.
“Everything about Yin yoga makes sense. The way we need to honour the differences between physical bodies, the fact there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do a pose, the energetics of the Traditional Chinese Medicine system, and the invitation to just slow down and possibly, to meditate. It’s something we all need, but don’t give ourselves permission to do often enough. I find my Yin teachings creeping into everything I do, on and off the mat.”
When she’s not teaching Megan works as a freelance writer and editor, and in her spare time is likely to be found at a yoga class, indulging in her serious brunch habit, plotting a trip to somewhere warm and tropical, or cheering on her beloved football teams, Essendon and Melbourne Victory.
